Saint-Tropez, CHANEL 2011 Cruise Collection

New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Venice and now Saint-Tropez, Karl Lagerfeld has not finished taking us for trips around the globe. On Tuesday May 11th, the port of this small village in the Var region hosts the unveiling of CHANEL’s new 2010-2011 Cruise collection.
At dusk, a taste of the vacations ahead reigns over the café Sénéquier. At the famous red lacquered tables, the ambience is relaxed. International journalists greet actors such as Pascal Greggory, Diane Kruger, Gaspard Ulliel, and Elisa Sednaoui, as well as CHANEL ambassadresses Vanessa Paradis and Anna Mouglais.
Opening the collection, models basking in sun and sea arrive in mahogany boats to walk joyfully along the port, looking for a table on the terrace. The show begins unexpectedly and full of humor.
With micro-minis, high-waisted dresses and light blouses, Karl Lagerfeld brings the symbols of the House of CHANEL to meet his idea of Saint-Tropez today. While punctuated with black and white, color is everywhere. Amber browns, absinthe and mint greens, sky and navy blues, and bright pinks appear in block-colors as well as in prints. Light little dresses are presented with infinite different proportions. Some show knees and others flirt with ankles, playing of seduction at any hour of the day with delicately sequinned ruffles, tweeded gossamer and fringed chiffon.
A pastel palette mixes with brights in cotton silhouettes with lightly flared pants and pleated blouses worn with large belts. Jeans remain an essential piece; whether colored or washed, crystal-studded or fringed, they are worn as a second skin. Beachy dresses, frilled bikinis and little sweaters with short sleeves have touches of vichy prints. Tweed jackets and cardigans are worn with chiffon blouses, and the famous CHANEL suit sees another reinterpretation. Embroidered, trimmed and chine?, tweed is worn with bare legs walking in low heels or gold leather grecian sandals. White or black broderie anglaise is married with openwork leather, and the two are destined to be.
Casual-chic looks in suede are decorated with embroideries and with diamond-shaped stitching, while knitwear makes a sensation with black, white, pink and multicolored stripes are decorated with trim or mixed with guipure. For the beach, cage dresses worn over swimsuits suggest a silhouette that is all about seduction.
Accessories are created with the same freedom. Leather sandals in electric colors, bags and totes in patchwork or vichy tweed, and pearl belts bring a sparkling allure to balmy nights.
