THE FLEXIBLE BODY CHANEL AUTUMN-WINTER 2010-2011 HAUTE COUTURE

Soft summer light filters through the glass roof of the Grand Palais. It is 8 pm and Karl Lagerfeld is launching his presentation of the Autumn-Winter 2010-2011 Haute Couture collection he has created for CHANEL. A Golden Lion of Venice, standing 12 metres high, serves as décor to the collection. The lion was inspired by the profusion of curios which can still be seen inside Coco Chanel’s apartment on Rue Cambon in Paris, and reminds us that she was born a Leo, a fire and sun sign of the zodiac par excellence. In the front row, certain high calibre guests can be seen: the American actresses Jessica Alba and Milla Jovovich, the two heroines of Gossip Girl, Blake Lively and Leighton Meester, the French actresses Clémence Poesy, Elisa Sednaoui and Lou Doillon, the Japanese actress Rinko Kikuchi, and the CHANEL ambassadress and actress, Anna Mouglalis.
Short jackets, blouson effect, high waists, and “flexibility” are the key concepts for the 2011 CHANEL suit. Modernised and given a twist by Karl Lagerfeld, this must-have item in the female wardrobe is created from tweed or wool jersey.
Casually dressed hair, boots in leather or embroidered and pleated mittens… the CHANEL woman combines elegance with ease of movement, and exuberance with sobriety. An alchemy which gives rise to all the allure of CHANEL.
